TomTom has been one of the world’s leading manufacturers of location and navigation solutions and has been the player in the industry since 1991. This Netherland based company currently has offices all around the world including North America, Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Africa with more than 3,000 employees working for them in each corner of the globe. Now with the introduction of the TomTomXXL 540S, the company has yet again marvel the consumers with their expertise in navigation and location at a very affordable cost.
TomTom XXL 540s – Rear
The TomTom XXL 540S is true to its name as it has a very large screen that may be well suited for drivers and consumers that are in need of better visual assistance that could not be provided by regular sized GPS screen. What makes the XXL 540S special besides its 5 inch screen display is it has a color touch screen that expands with the size so the image in the GPS do not get distorted when viewed on wider screen. The huge screen will be helpful especially to big truck drivers that mount their GPS device further away from their seat.
Similar to its sibling XL models, the TomTom XXL 540S has an identical set of features including the successful TomTom Map Share and IQ Routes advance technologies. In addition to that, the TomTom XXL 540S is also installed with the advance lane guidance to help drivers know the roads way ahead so they will not make the wrong turn. One amazing feature that will surely amaze consumers of this GPS device is the “text-to-speech” technology that is able to read street names and point-of-interest for quick recognition and navigation purposes.

Designed with total elegance, the TomTom XXL 540S is equipped with a WQVGA wide-format 5 inch touch screen and coupled with two loud speakers at the back of the device. The TomTom GPS device is also designed with minimalist in mind and came out with a clean screen side surface with only a button on the device’s top corner. The USB 1.1 port is located at the bottom of the GPS and can be used both as car charger and data transfer connection. The minimal feature of the XXL 540S does not stop there. The device does not have a microSD card slot that means consumers will have to make do with the 2GB built in storage of the GPS unit.
However, the TomTom XXL 540S lack a few features that can be considered to be vital for a GPS location and navigation device to have. One of the lacking feature is the Map Screen does not give street addresses that is included in the earlier TomTom GPS device. The XXL 540S also does not have the manual zoom in and zoom out feature to make the map more detailed to consumers. The device also lacks a ‘Back’ button to change page preferences and consumers have to scroll the page one more round when they missed a navigation page.
