Sony is no strange to a wide variety of electronic stuffs and TV industry is also no exception. The Sony Bravia KDL55HX800 offers 3D similar to the Samsung Samsung UN55C8000 but at much better price. If you think 3D is a must-have feature when you are about to buy a new TV with the hope to save little money, this TV is really a good pick.
Sony Bravia KDL55HX800
Sony understands as much as its competitors in the TV industry that the need to push the 3D technology to the fullest. With only Sony and Samsung are the only 2 TV companies that are able to produce a 3D LED TV, it gives Sony an upper hand to seize more chunks of the TV market.
Apart from the 3D capability, this particular TV set has what is called “Dynamic Edge” LED back lighting. This feature gives Sony Bravia KDL55HX800 the ability to offer local dimming from an edge-lit array which similar to standard local dimming but it does not generate a true black.
With the thickness of almost 3 inches, this LED TV cannot be considered as of the thinnest LED TV and is not suitable to hang on the wall. Even though it is rather thicker than the LG INFINIA 55LX9500, it has something else to offer – an edge-lit LED.
As far as the extras are concerned, the Sony Bravia KDL55HX800 comes with all basics such as Netflix, Pandora, YouTube and many more – all these things are all offered through BRAVIA Internet Video.
Display
This high end LED TV really delivers but when it comes to the overall picture quality (especially when watching TV or Blu-rays) you may be disappointed. It is of course frustrating when we learned that Sony does not publish the refresh rate and contrast ratio for this TV.
This issue might be trivial when we are talking about a gigantic and renowned company like Sony, it should not happen. Overall, we found that the picture quality is very good especially in dark areas and to wash out a bit in well lit areas. Like several high end LED TVs, the Sony Bravia KDL55HX800 is much better as a home theater TV considering the best picture quality you could get out of it.
Connections
- basic HDMI connections
- Ethernet port
