In 2009, record has it that Panasonic has not had much luck in the Blu-ray market and was left chasing its fierce competitors. However, at the turn of 2010, the global brand has came out with a standalone Blu-ray disc player, the Panasonic DMP-BD85K, which has had rave reviews from consumers. There were many must-have features that were lacking in the previous Panasonic Blu-ray players such as the support of Netflix video streaming, Wi-Fi and fast video uploading time. The significant improvements made in Panasonic DMP-BD85K will certainly mark their comeback with a bang.

The obvious upgrades that Panasonic has done to the DMP-BD85K was upgrading its video quality and adding a 7.1 channel audio decode analog output as well as the built in Wi-Fi ready connection port to enable live video streaming through the internet. Now consumers can enjoy their online content without needing to use a LAN cable. With the Panasonic DMP-BD85K, consumers will have the chance to watch their favourite shows in Full-HD in 1080p. The Adaptive High Precision 4:4:4 produces more vibrant and true color that shows far greater details than the previous Blu-ray products the manufacturers has produced.

Another impressive feature that comes with the DMP-BD85K is its 0.5 second ultra fast booting that is measured from standby mode to power-on. The quick start feature has definitely brings up the value for money in the Panasonic DMP-BD85K in the consumers’ eyes. Consumers will no longer have to feel the stress of waiting for the video to load and cut time wasting. The Blu-ray device is also integrated with a HDMI Jitter Purifier that reduces jittery error that normally happens in normal DVD players. With less jittery, consumers will experience the music in pure detail hence maximizing its sound potential.

However, the physical design of the Panasonic DMP-BD85K were not far different from its previous predecessor such as the DMP-80K model. The boxy features stayed the same despite their competitors flaunting glossier, sleek and more futuristic designs in the market. The interior of the LCD screen panel was fitted with a Play and Stop button, SD card slot and a USB port. Another feature that needed to be upgraded is the text-based menu and operational indicators which are still in lagging behind their competitors that has come up with clear LED display.

What consumers have to take not is although the Panasonic DMP-BD85K provides an inch smaller remote control compared to their previous Blu-ray player models, navigating the player using the button on the remote maybe a little taxing as some of the important features for the setup is buried deep into the submenus such as the subtitle change option.

In addition, playing a movie from a cheap off the shelf USB flash device could be a bit challenging compared with using a more decent or higher quality USB device when playing AVI files with the Panasonic DMP-BD85K disc player. With a price range of below $250, this Blu-ray player may be an excellent item for you to purchase on a budget.
