Much like its revolutionary grand daddy the first iPhone back in 2007, the new 4th generation Apple iPhone 4 repeated history when peoples pitched tents outside of AT&T offices across the country to line up when it was first released. Cupertino based Apple must heard iPhone bashers and promptly came out with the new iteration that simply has no equal in the smartphone world, both in aesthetics and features.

What Changed for the Better
No more a laggard in the imaging department, the Apple iPhone 4 camera is a revelation. While confined to only 5 megapixel resolution, it has the largest lens and CMOS sensor that allow higher ISO sensitivity. That means more detailed shots even in low light. It now sports LED flash, autofocus with touchfocus and geo tagging.
Not to be outdone by emerging high end camera phones, it has full 720p HD video recording at a movie-grade 30fps and aided with continuous video light. There’s even a VGA front camera for 3G video calls along with video chat over WiFi. You can even shift from front to back video to show the other party your face and what’s in front of you.
What’s New
But what stands out, like the first iPhone with its revolutionary multitouch, is the gorgeous display. Apple calls it the Retina Display. It boasts of a 960 x 640 resolution – the highest of any smartphone display on the planet, even if it’s only 3.5 inches across. The best out there is only 800 x 480 even on larger 4.3 inch displays. This results in the richest dot pitch density at 326 dots per inch that already rivals the best printer quality on earth.
The Apple iPhone 4 is the first smartphone or any phone to use a built-in gyroscope. Any aeronautic engineer will tell you that a gyroscope allows the highest precision motion tracking ever invented. It has a 3-axis detection for pitch, roll and yaw that, together with its gravity accelerometer, gives the iPhone 4 a 6-axis motion sensing.
iPhone 4 back
Under the hood is the same Apple A4 chip that powers the iPad. It’s anSoC (System on a Chip) that houses an ARM Cortex-A8 CPU assisted by a PowerVR SGX 535 HD graphics accelerator and gets 512 MB DDR SDRAM chips for its system memory. Because the chip is essentially architected as computing system housed in one chip, processing is faster and attains better battery efficiency. Blessed with a 16% larger Li-ion battery result, you get an unparalleled 10 yours of talk time on 2G, 7 hours on 3G, music playback for up to 40 hours and standby time of 300 hours.
Flagship Telephony
The Apple iPhone 4 matches the data and radio connectivity wealth of the best smartphones and is one of the few offering quad band radio on both 2G GSM and 3G UMTS. It has class 10 GPRS/EDGE data speeds on 2G and HSDPA at 7.2 MBps and HSUPA at 5.6 Mbps on 3G. Local data connectivity supports hotspot surfing with its WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, while data transfers gets Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, miniUSB 2.0 SatNav gets a built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS.
But admittedly there are some things that haven’t changed. There’s still no micro SD support though you do get either a 16GBor 32GB model. Luckily, the same exquisitely crafted metal body and solid feel on your hands remains with only a few cosmetic changes that now leans towards less curvatures and sharper edges.
